Because of an unplanned move to the other side of the country, I got depression. My husband insisted on seeing a doctor, where depression was confirmed and the psychiatrist prescribed the antidepressant “Pristiq”. It is a small capsule of prolonged action. The first signs of improvement appeared by the end of the first month of treatment, I was particularly pleased with the return of my night sleep. At the end of the course the doctor informed me that I didn’t need to take the drug any more, I was already all right.

Both my husband and I were prescribed the drug because of immigration depression. I am 34 years old and my husband is 50. We had very different experiences of depression, but the reaction to the drug was the same - we became more irritable. I haven’t noticed any changes in duration or quality of sleep. There were no blood pressure spikes. But the agitation as a side effect or initial effect was unbearable: after 2 weeks, I gave up the drug (as did my husband), not waiting to feel better.
