Lioresal

It works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) that are sent to the brain. Lioresal may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Do not use Lioresal if you are allergic to it, or if you have:

-a history of stroke or blood clots

-severe liver disease

-severe kidney disease

-a breathing disorder such as asthma, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis

Before using Lioresal, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant during treatment. It is unknown whether Lioresal passes into breast milk and could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast feeding a baby.

It is also used to relieve the pain and stiffness of multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury. Lioresal (Baclofen) may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Lioresal (Baclofen) works by decreasing the amount of excitatory neurotransmitters released from nerve cells in the brain. This reduces the severity of spasms and pain, and may help to improve movement.

You should not use this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it or another similar drug such as gabapentin (Neurontin), pregabalin (Lyrica), phenytoin (Dilantin), carbamazepine (Tegretol), valproic acid(Depakote, Depakene), divalproex sodium(Depakote ER, Depacon ), topiramate(Topamax).

The most common side effects of Lioresal include: dizziness; drowsiness; weakness; headache; nausea; vomiting;; dry mouth;; constipation;; blurred vision;; confusion;; changes in mood or behavior including anxiety, agitation, hostility ;and increased seizures.Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood swings, depression, thoughts about suicide ; chest pain ; fast heart rate ; shortness of breath ; swelling in your hands o r feet
