It belongs to a class of drugs called sulfonylureas, which work by stimulating the pancreas to produce more insulin. Amaryl comes in four different dosages: 1 mg, 2 mg, 3 mg, and 4 mg. It is usually taken once or twice a day with food.
Common side effects of Amaryl include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, headache, and dizziness. More serious side effects can include low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), liver damage, and heart failure. Amaryl should not be used by people with liver disease or heart failure. It also should not be used by pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding
