Exelon

Exelon drug is a prescription medication used to treat mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease. The active ingredient in Exelon is rivastigmine, which belongs to a class of drugs called cholinesterase inhibitors. Rivastigmine works by preventing the breakdown of a chemical in the brain called acetylcholine. This helps keep levels of acetylcholine high, which may improve thinking skills and memory function in people with dementia. Exelon comes as an oral tablet that is taken twice daily with food. The dosage depends on your age and how well you tolerate the medication. Some common side effects of Exelon include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, muscle cramps, and dizziness. Although rare, serious side effects can occur including difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest pain or tightness, rapid heartbeat (palpitations), severe skin rash or hives (urticaria), and seizures
